Chasing Arrows: The Truth About Recycling

editor :: 2022
produced by Peak Plastic Foundation and The Alliance of Mission Based Recyclers, co-edited with Brian Wilson

Reduce, reuse, then recycle: In the 1970s, this was the structure under which advocates built America’s recycling industry. Unfortunately, the petrochemical and packaging industries have exploited this fundamental premise and used recycling as a cover to increase plastic production exponentially. “Chasing Arrows: The Truth About Recycling,” exposes myths and outlines how the plastics industry is trashing recycling with non-recyclable plastics. AMBR models how Zero Waste recycling can and does achieve these goals, and to help return recycling to its roots as an integral part of a circular economy.

Often called “forever chemicals,” PFAS have raised significant concern in the U.S. and globally because of their persistence and potential to bioaccumulate, along with their widespread presence in living organisms, products, and the environment, and demonstrated adverse health effects at low doses. See more about the coalition’s efforts and ongoing work here.
